"Discover The Easiest And Least Expensive Way To Generate A Flood Of
High Quality Traffic To Your Web Site."

Plus, how a single domain name produced $182.62 in easy, zero-effort income in only 30 days and continues to produce even more income every day and How Anyone can find and acquire domains for profit.

Every day, millions of hits are lost because website owners carelessly forget to renew their domains. Either they lose interest, don't have the time, money or effort to manage their sites, or they simply forget their domain will expire. Although a lot of these expired domains were never developed, a fair number were once active and thriving websites and that spells BIG opportunity for you.

It is all about Traffic

If you want to succeed on the internet you need to be able to generate traffic. It doesn't matter whether you're trying to sell a product, generate leads, or produce revenue using Google Adsense.... If you cannot get people to your site then you don't stand a chance.

One of the biggest challenges to a webmaster is how to generate traffic. More traffic to your website equates to more sales. So how does one generate extra traffic to their website? Search engine optimization, email campaigns, pay-per-clicks, banner advertising, are among some of the tactics that are popular. But, the easiest and most overlooked method of generating traffic is through expired domain names.

Imagine a webmaster working for months or (even years) to build up traffic to his website. He gets link partners, he posts messages in related forums, over time he builds up a lot of quality links which produce a lot of quality traffic. Then, one day, for whatever reason, the webmaster lets the domain expire. Where does all that traffic go? The answer is nowhere. What a waste!

The good news is these domains (and more importantly the traffic stream they produce) can easily be acquired by forward thinking Internet Entrepreneurs for as little as registration costs.

Why domains with traffic Expire

Why would an owner of a domain ever let a valuable domain expire? The previous owner may have run out of money to promote the site. They may have lacked the time and motivation to manage the site. They may have gotten tied up in other activities or another job. They simply forgot to renew their domain. They may have regrettably succumbed to illness or even death. They failed to receive the notice from their registrar informing them that their domain was about to expire. Also, in many instances the owners of a domain have no idea how valuable the domain really is. So, not understanding the value they choose not to pay the domain renewal fee.

Not too many years ago, expired domain names were available immediately, and some speculators waited like hawks for great, high traffic domain names. They'd swoop in and grab the domain seconds after it expired, then if the previous owner came along and asked for it back, the speculator would require a hefty fee for it. This was considered extremely unethical, and many domain name owners would claim their site was "stolen" by the speculator.

When a domain name expires these days, it's not immediately available for other people to buy. Instead, it goes into a holding pattern of sorts. This holding period will vary from one registrar to another, but it generally lasts for about 3 months. The purpose of this "holding" period is to give the previous owner additional chances to renew the domain.

The Top Two Methods To Profit From Expired Domains

  1. Redirecting traffic to other sites you own - If a domain name has traffic already, you could simply redirect it to one of the sites you already own. Buying domains relevant to the topic and keywords of your website is a quick, easy, cheap way to increase traffic on your existing websites.
    http://www.freeforeclosuredatabase.com/

Case Study: Redirect to existing web site

FreeForeClosureDatabase.com provides Nationwide Foreclosure Listings for free. This site produces revenue from advertising on the site. Like most sites, FreeForeclosureDatabse.com is always looking for new sources of quality traffic. Expired domain traffic has proved to be a valuable source of new highly targeted visitors. Two of the Expired domains acquired and directed to FreeForeclosureDatabase.com were:

    ReviewForeclosures.com: Averages 8 visitors a day.

    auctionpropertylists.com Averages 3 visitors a day.

3 or 8 visitors a day doesn't sound like much, but if you research what it would cost if you were to buy those clicks through Google Adwords. You would find that a single click for the Keyword "Foreclosure listings" is $1.66 (on 8/5/2006). Comparing traffic in this way, it's clear that the estimated annual traffic from ReviewForeclosures.com is worth an astounding $4,847.20 and AuctionPropertylists.com is worth $1,871.70!

  2. Parking Services -Even if you don't have an existing website you can make big profits by using "Parking Services" These services allow you to profit from domains even if you don't have a website. The parking services host your site (for free) and display ads on your site. When a visitor clicks on an ad, you get paid. There are a lot of different parking services out there and they all make it very easy to get set up and running. How much could you earn from parking? That depends on the domain and the amount of traffic it generates but here's a quick case study:
    http://www.blindpay.com/

    Case Study: Domain parking

BlindPay.com is parked with a parking service called Klickerz.com. As you can see, the site is not extravagant at all and, in fact, seems a big ugly. But, it produces excellent revenue!

BlindPay.com expired and was acquired on Jun 19, 2006 for $60

The domain has been parked since July 4th, 2006

Within the first 30days of parking the domain had produced $182.62 in income. That's a 300% return in just the FIRST 30 days! More importantly, most parking services automatically optimize the parked page to produce the maximum amount of earnings by showing the most relevant ads to the site visitors. This optimization can make a huge difference. For example, the first day of parking July 4, 2006 $1.32 was generated, but a month later on August 4th the earnings were $8.51!

Other ways to profit from Expired Domains:

  • Development into full/large site (For use or sale) - Create a full fledged site. This can be 10 pages, 100 pages or tens of thousands of pages. Using an expired domain for a new site can get your site immediate traffic from the existing links and the fact that the domain may already be indexed in the search engines making it much easier for you to optimize your site for search engine traffic.
  • Redirecting traffic to affiliate sites - Along similar lines, you can simply redirect the expired domain to one of your affiliate products or programs.
  • Reselling - As you've seen good domain names can be worth a lot of money. If you want to make some quick cash you could resell the domain name to someone else in the domain aftermarket. There are many sites devoted to the buying and selling of domains and there's a real opportunity to make a quick profit.
  • Holding - You can simply hold the domain for as long as you want to, letting the prices, demand, and value continue rising. Domain names (especially .com domains) are becoming a limited resource. Many people have found that acquiring good expiring domains and holding onto them for a period of time is an excellent strategy for capturing huge profits. Domains are like virtual real estate. As the supply of real estate goes down, the value of the real estate goes up. Dot com domains are excellent examples of domains that increase in value over time. In 1996 it was fairly easy to find great .com domains. In 2006 however, it's almost impossible to find good ones available. And the shorter the domain name is, the harder it is to find one available. So by simply buying domains with great potential - particularly ones that might be even more rare 5 or 10 years down the road - investors simply hold them to let the value continue increasing.

What Makes Expired Domains Valuable:

Even if a domain "sounds" really great, it doesn't make it a good domain name from an investment stand point. Domain names, in and of themselves, are not valuable. What is valuable is the traffic that those domains produce. Domains, in and of themselves, are like raw undeveloped. But, with some time and energy domains can become quite valuable. By acquiring expired domains you have the opportunity take advantage of the energy, time and money other people put into a domain, but then let it expire. The one significant exception to this is "Type in" potential which we'll discuss in a moment. For now, Here are the main factors you should look for when buying expired domain names:

  • Existing Links - Any domain name that was previously developed and used is likely to have been promoted at some point in the past. Because of this, there are likely to be links to that domain from other websites around the web. And in some cases, old domains have thousands of links from other sites. These existing links can be an immediate source of traffic to a domain.

  • Existing Pagerank - Many webmasters are concerned with the Google PageRank system, and they desperately want to find ways to increase their own website pagerank. Alternatively, they'd give almost anything to get a link to their site from a site that has a good pagerank. Sometimes, because of the links mentioned above, expired domains will retain pagerank after they've expired. This is appealing to many domain name speculators because they can develop the site quickly and possibly retain that pagerank, or they can redirect the domain to their own site and potentially transfer the pagerank.

It's important to note that most expired domains automatically and immediately lose their pagerank. It's rare to find a domain that retains it's Google pagerank.  It's not impossible, but it is rare. Also note that pagerank is that little green bar that goes from 0-10 on the Google toolbar. Pagerank is NOT the same as where the site shows up in the search engine results when someone searches the topic.

  • Branding Potential - Some people buy expired domain names for branding. Either the domain name matches their business name, product line, or specific product name or the domain is something catchy they'd like to incorporate into a new or existing business.

Often this method is used by people who can't find acceptable or appropriate domain names readily available. Someone may want to start an internet store about cell phone accessories for instance, yet not be able to find what they consider to be a "good" domain name. So instead they'll buy an expired one they like, and use that for their new website.

  • Scarcity - Buying expired domains because the domain is scarce. Generic words and very short domain names are examples of the types of domains that tend to be fairly hard to find these days. Domains that end in ".com" are significantly more scarce than others.

  • Type in (Direct Navigation) - Type-in Traffic is when someone goes to the internet looking for a particular product or service. But instead of going to a search engine like Google, they simply type a URL directly into the web browser. For example, If you're car shopping, you could go to Google and do a search for "cars". But, many people will simply enter cars.com into their browser and be directed to the cars.com website directly.

One might think this is not a good example because cars.com is a developed website which has done a fair amount of advertising. One might think that's why users type "cars.com" into their browser. In fact, cars.com bought the domain cars.com precisely because every day people would blindly type "cars.com" into their web browsers.

Another example of a domain with type in traffic is godfather.com. Every day more than 500 people blindly type godfather.com into their web browsers. Why? They're looking for something and they think they'll find it at godfather.com. The actual web page hosted at godfather.com is irrelevant. Every day at least 500 people come to that website through type-in traffic.

How To Find Valuable Expired Domains

The #1 reason that everybody doesn't take advantage of expired domains is because it's incredibly challenging to sort through the domains that expire each day to find the ones that have value. More than 20,000 ".com" domains expire every single day, not to mention all the ".net's", ".info's", ".org's", etc. Of these tens of thousands of domain names, only a very small percentage of them were previously developed sites with link popularity or have type-in traffic potential.

Here's how to find the valuable domains:

  1. Get a list of the domains which expire each day. There are a number of providers that distribute these lists. Some for free, while others charge.
  2. Determine Link popularity for each domain.
  3. Determine Overture rating. This is a critical number when trying to determine if a domain has type-in potential. If the domain has an Overture "w/TLW" ranking then that means that someone went to a search engine and actually typed in "domainname.com" into the search box. If people are typing the domain name into a search engine, it's likely that they're also typing it directly into their browser.
  4. Determine Google PageRank
  5. Determine Alexa Ranking. Alexa is like the Nielsen ratings of the internet. Essentially, it is a ranking of all websites online. If a domain has a good Alexa ranking, then it's probably receiving a good amount of traffic.
  6. Determine DMOZ Listing Status: DMOZ.org is a directory listing of many of the internet's web sites. But, it's not easy to get listed in the DMOZ directory. So, if a site is listed that's a great indication that it has been previously developed.

Over the last few years many software products and services have come on the market to help people sort through the domains. Some of the services are free while others require payment. All of these services are seriously flawed in one way or another... for example:

  • They'll sell you a portion of of the information you need like a huge raw list of expiring domains of which 98% are worthless.
  • They sell you an "amazing piece of software" that will scan the expiring domains. You just need to add the lists, plus a server farm to process the data in less than 24 hours, and the big catch: Overture, Google, Alexa, Yahoo, Altavista and everyone else you need to get the Link popularity data from will block your IP for making too many requests, making it impossible to use the software unless you have high powered servers to run the software and an endless supply of live proxies so that you don't get blocked. In fact, one the most popular pieces of software which sells for more than $200 offers this warning:
"Warning: In order for this application to work effectively you must update the application with "live" proxies on a regular basis. We previously included them within the application however we stopped since so many users were killing them off so quickly..."

"Actionable Intelligence" for Domain Investment:

Finally, there is a one stop shop for easily sorting through the lists of expiring domain names to find ones of value. DomainersEdge.com provides all of the key information for evaluating expiring domains including:

  • Overture w/TLD
  • Alexa Rank
  • DMOZ Listing Status
  • Google LP
  • Google PR
  • Yahoo LP
  • AllTheWeb LP
  • Altavista LP
  • Alexa LP

It's not easy, but by maintaining a massive server farm, DomainersEdge.com scans tens of thousands of expiring domains every day and shares the results in an "easily-to-search" and "easy-to-sort" list with DomainersEdge.com members. Our mission is to provide our members with the "Action-able Intelligence" they need to find and acquire great domain names.

PREMIUM Membership: The DE Premium membership includes everything the FREE Membership has and Much, much more...

  • ALL THE INFORMATION YOU NEED gathered by DE's computer systems each night and provided to you 5 days prior to domain expiration in easy to search and sort lists. Looking for domains with just DMOZ listings? No problem, simply sort the list and you'll have ready access to them. Looking for domains containing specific words? With the Premium membership it's incredibly easy to locate and view all the critical data you need. All the data below is collected IN ADVANCE and waiting for you when you log in:

    • Overture w/TLD
    • Alexa Rank
    • DMOZ Listing Status
    • Google PR
    • Google LP
    • Yahoo LP
    • AlltheWeb LP
    • AltaVista LP
    • Alexa LP

  • Drilling Down: With a Premium Membership you can not only easily see the numbers like Alexa ranking and Link Popularity, but in a single click you can drill down and find out the story behind the numbers. This allows you to find out the quality of links a domain has, in a addition to the quality. This function is CRITICAL when researching many domains.

Real Life Example: Domain name NFLlinks.com is set to expire on 8/8/06. It has a Google PR ranking of 5 and it has a 3,258 Link Popularity. 3,258 "good" links are hard to come by, so if the links are good... then we know this domain has a good chance of producing traffic from users interested in Football. To get a rough idea of the quality of the links, a premium member just makes a couple of clicks and is viewing the actual sites that link to NFLlinks.com which include legitimate sports themed sites like:

    orangebowlticket.com
    greatsportsrivalries.com
    nflgoddess.com
    worldfigureskatingchampionships.com

After drilling down, Premium users can get a lot more background on a domain.

  • Not Just ".coms" The .com extension is, by far, the most popular but it's common for premium members to find extremely valuable domains with other extensions and DE provides complete information on all of the following extensions:

    • .com
    • .net
    • .biz
    • .us
    • .org
    • .info

  • Dropped Domain History: Some domains are snapped up immediately upon expiration, but other fantastic domains are completely missed. We keep track of the domains that drop and monitor all the information above along with their registered/available status. If you're looking for targeted traffic just search our database by keyword and find domains that are available right now with existing Link Popularity.

  • Domain Co-op: Sometimes, it's nice to be an insider and the Domain Co-op allows Premium Members to be just that. Day and night our proprietary technology is digging for unregistered domains with potential type-in (aka Direct Navigation) traffic. When we find unregistered domains with Overture w/TLD ratings, we immediately share the information with our members so they can register them. This is done on a round robin basis so all members benefit. Premium members can then register the domain for basic registration fees through their favorite registrar. There's nothing better than getting a $500 domain name for $8.95 :)

After a huge investment of time and money, we're finally ready to make Premium memberships available to the public. If you take action quickly, you'll be able to lock in the lowest membership rate of $99/month (an insignificant price to pay for such critical, easy to review data) this locked-in rate is guaranteed not to change for the life-time of your membership. But, if you wait, you could pay much more for the exact same membership! "Why?", you ask? As has been stated numerous times, membership is strictly limited and membership rates will increase as new members come on board. Those who act quickly will be rewarded with a locked-in low membership rate and can be confident that the data within DomainersEdge.com will not be diluted due to too many users.
